Standards Bodies

Home » Company » Standards Bodies

While providing networking solutions and applications to a broad range of service providers and OEMs, we believe that participating in and leading key standards bodies is a fundamental part of our responsibility. This allows us to

  • support the standards bodies in creating the best solutions
  • support our customers' requirements
  • gain unrivalled understanding of the issues when implementing technology.

We therefore participate in the following bodies.

Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) logo

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is the protocol engineering and development arm of the Internet. The IETF is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet's architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet.

Data Connection and MetaSwitch support the IETF's activities through participation in standards drafting and review.

MultiService Forum (MSF) logo

The MultiService Forum (MSF) is a global association of service providers and system suppliers committed to developing and promoting open-architecture, multiservice switching systems. The MSF's activities include developing implementation agreements, promoting worldwide compatibility and interoperability, and encouraging input to appropriate national and international standards bodies.

Paul Drew, of Data Connection and MetaSwitch, is MSF Architecture Working Group Chairperson and is co-author of the MSF white paper "Next Generation VoIP Network Architecture". In 2003, Paul was also awarded the prestigious MSF Circle of Excellence for his contributions to the organization.

IMS Forum logo

The IMS Forum is a global, non-profit industry association devoted to interoperable IMS services and solutions. The mission of the Forum is to accelerate the adoption of IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) by providing an environment for discussion and resolution of real-world implementation issues relating to interoperability, best practices, and standards-based architectures.

Data Connection's and MetaSwitch's participation in the IMS Forum follows the company's belief in multi-vendor interoperability based on open standards.

SIP Forum logo

The SIP Forum serves as a focal point for organizations and individuals involved in SIP-based communications markets to promote the commercial value and benefits of the technology. SIP is rapidly emerging as the protocol of choice for setting up conferencing, telephony, multi-media and other types of communications sessions over IP networks.

Data Connection and MetaSwitch support the SIP Forum and participate in the SIP Forum events.

TIA logo

TIA is the leading trade association in the communications and information technology industry with proven strengths in market development, trade promotion, trade shows, domestic and international advocacy, standards development and enabling e-business.

Data Connection and MetaSwitch support TIA through sponsorship and attendance at TIA-organized events.

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) logo

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technology issues, and the global focal point for governments and the private sector in developing networks and services. It has established and maintains the worldwide standards that assure seamless interconnection of a vast range of communications systems.

Data Connection and MetaSwitch support the ITU’s activities through participation in standards drafting and review.

Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) logo

The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) is the only industry group uniting representatives from the data and optical networks. Its purpose is to accelerate the deployment of interoperable, cost-effective and robust optical internetworks and their associated technologies. Optical internetworks are data networks composed of routers and data switches interconnected by optical networking elements.

Data Connection supports the OIF’s activities through participation in standards drafting and review and interoperability testing.
