Data Connection Licenses Intelligent Optical Control Plane Software to NEC for the SpectralWave series of Optical Transport Equipment
NEC to demonstrate the solution on the SpectralWave U-Node at SuperComm 2002 in Atlanta
London, UK: May 27, 2002 - Data Connection Limited (DCL), a leading provider of communications protocol software, announced today that it has licensed its optical control plane software to NEC Corporation (NEC) to provide the control plane for the NEC SpectralWave series of optical transport equipment. NEC will be demonstrating an initial version of the solution, including signaling and discovery, on the SpectralWave Universal Node (U-Node) at booth 24230 at SuperComm 2002.
NEC have licensed DCL software to implement a standards based control plane, based on GMPLS, LMP and extended OSPF. DCL's protocol solutions are developed to a very high standard and are carefully architected to allow for future extensions as the standards develop. Adding this feature to the SpectralWave products will allow service providers to provision connections faster and at lower cost, to utilize the resources of their networks better, and to set up protection paths more cheaply.
Working with DCL is allowing NEC to implement a solution while the standardization work is still in progress.
"Our partnership with DCL has enabled us to focus on integrating their software into our hardware, while they are responsible for responding to the changes and developments in the standards," said Mr. Takuro Ito, General Manager of NEC's Optical Network Product Marketing Division. "We did a very detailed evaluation and chose to work with DCL because of the high quality of their implementation, the flexibility of their architecture, and the responsiveness and professionalism of their support. Other key factors in the success of our partnership have been DCL's expertise and ability to form a close working relationship with us during the development."
"We are delighted to be working with NEC," said Phil McConnell, CEO of DCL. "Being selected by a quality leader, such as NEC, and forming such a successful partnership, shows that in working with us an equipment manufacturer can develop a solution that is both better quality and faster to market than an internal solution."
You can see DCL at SuperComm 2002, at booth 24515. The demonstration will be at NEC's booth, 24230.
