Data Connection Publishes White Paper on MPLS in Optical Networks
Paper offers a comprehensive review of the requirements for signaling in optical networks, the generalized signaling extensions to MPLS and the development of LMP and the OIF UNI
London, UK: July 30, 2001. Data Connection Limited (DCL) today announced publication of a White Paper providing a detailed review of the developments in MPLS for signaling intelligent optical networks. The White Paper builds on DCL's extensive optical control plane implementation experience gained from developing these solutions for many of the leading optical vendors. DCL produced the first-to-market portable implementations of the Generalized signaling extensions to MPLS (GMPLS), the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) User to Network Interface (UNI) and Link Management Protocol (LMP), an associated optical networking management protocol.
In the White Paper, topics include
- Requirements of Optical Networks
- Generalized Labels for Optical Networks
- Constraining Label Choice
- Out of Band Signaling
- Reducing Signaling Latency and Overhead
- Bi-directional Paths
- LMP
- OIF UNI.
"We have got strong feedback from customers that they have found our previous MPLS White Papers extremely useful," said Ben Miller, General Manager of DCL's MPLS business. "With optical MPLS, we have been working with many of the leading players in the industry, which has allowed us to develop significant expertise. This was therefore an area where we felt we could offer some value, I hope our customers find it useful."

About DC-MPLS
DC-MPLS is a fully portable carrier-class implementation that sets the industry standard for performance, scalability and robustness. Its architecture is easily extensible, provides full MIB support and enables fault tolerant and distributed hardware configurations.
DC-MPLS provides a full range of function, including RSVP-TE, CR-LDP and LDP signaling protocols, and protocol extensions for the full range of MPLS applications, including traffic engineering, optical provisioning and VPNs. Many leading MPLS equipment manufacturers use DC-MPLS and some of them are listed at http://www.dataconnection.com/mpls/customer.htm.
Data Connection is heavily involved in the MPLS standardization process and provides market education through highly regarded white papers available on its website. Topics include a comparison of RSVP-TE and CR-LDP signaling protocols, Protection and Restoration in MPLS networks, VPNs and now MPLS in Optical Networks.
