Data Connection Ships DC-OSPF, First in its IP Routing Protocol Software Family

High quality, fault tolerant IP routing to complement its industry leading DC-MPLS product for both packet and optical applications

London, UK: March 4, 2002. Data Connection Limited (DCL), the leading supplier of high quality network protocol software, today shipped the initial release of DC-OSPF on schedule to several customers.

The initial release of DC-OSPF includes a host of functions for next generation networks such as traffic engineering, constrained routing (CSPF), high levels of scalability (through distribution) and resilience. Additional releases are planned to further extend DC-OSPF, as well as to expand the IP routing suite to include DC-BGP and DC-ISIS.

"Traditional IP routing is evolving rapidly, for example for traffic engineering, optical networks, VPNs and the inter-carrier exchange of routing metrics beyond simple reachability," stated Ben Miller, General Manager of DCL's MPLS, IP Routing and ATM business unit. "Our IP routing protocol suite is ideal for use in both cutting edge devices and traditional routers."

DC-OSPF, in common with all DCL's networking protocol products has been developed according to DCL's highly rigorous processes, greatly reducing the time to market and engineering effort required for customers building truly carrier-class network devices. It operates within DCL's unique "N-BASE" environment, which is shared by DCL's other network protocol software. The N-BASE has been used in many leading devices over the past 10 years that have proven its portability, its scalability, its performance as well as the very highest levels of resilience and availability demanded by the leading carriers.

"What many of our customers are seeking is a control plane for their networking devices that provides the very highest levels of performance and availability combined with the flexibility to include their own innovations," added Ben Miller. "For example, a combination of DC-OSPF, DC-BGP, DC-MPLS and DC-ATM provides the core of the control plane for a richly featured packet switched device. Similarly a combination of DC-OSPF, DC-MPLS and DC-LMP provides the bulk of an optical control plane."
