Session Border Controller Software

DC-SBC for IMS
Data Connection's Session Border Control for IMS product

The experienced team at Data Connection has developed a fully portable Session Border Controller (DC-SBC) software solution designed especially for system vendors. Data Connection’s extensive VoIP and IP routing heritage provides OEMs with a field-hardened SBC solution that is deployable immediately, delivering dramatic cost and time-to-market savings. The solution also includes many of the essential control functions required in an IMS environment. Like all Data Connection products, DC-SBC is developed to the highest quality standards, and the Session Border Controller architecture is designed for unparalleled modularity, flexibility, scale, and reliability.

Data Connection’s Session Border Controller software offers vendors a best of breed solution which offers all of the key features and the high performance and availability characteristics required by Service Providers and Enterprisers using Session Border Controllers in their networks.

DC-SBC is available to OEMs as a complete solution or can be modularized to incorporate indvidual components. Both solutions are highly portable and can be integrated seamlessly with any hardware and operating system as well as with existing, field-deployed systems including softswitches and routers.

Solution Benefits

Data Connection's Session Border Controller solution combines a number of key benefits.

Compelling cost savings

Session Border Controllers support a wide range of functions including signaling, security, interworking, QoS, call control, and billing. Developing, testing, and maintaining such a broad set of requirements is a costly undertaking, requiring millions of investment dollars and manpower. Data Connection estimates that developing full SBC functionality in-house would cost OEMs over $25 million, which does not include recurring enhancement and maintenance costs. Data Connection offers DC-SBC at a fraction of the cost and provides support, updates, and code improvements at a nominal annual fee.

Quickest time to market

OEMs looking to develop Session Border Controller software internally would require years of development time. Data Connection estimates the workload at 100 man-years and the efforts and track record of the current stand-alone SBC vendors validates that figure. Data Connection now offers full SBC functionality in source code that is pre-ported with all of the leading operating systems including Linux, OSE, QNX, Solaris, VxWorks, and Windows. OEM lead times and scheduled risk are reduced from years to months with DC-SBC.

Field proven technology

DC-SBC is built on a foundation of proven and field-hardened VoIP signaling technology. At the heart of DC-SBC is the full suite of Data Connection's portable VoIP products, DC-SIP, DC-MGCP and DC-Megaco/H.248. These products have been shipping for the past six years, and have been field-hardened and deployed in a wide variety of VoIP devices, including Data Connection's award-winning Metaswitch Class 5 softswitch solution.

The interworking, call control, routing policy server and call services components of DC-SBC have been previously developed, proven, and deployed for the MetaSwitch softswitch, which has over 300 installations.

Flexible and modular integration options

DC-SBC and the IMS functions are extremely modular in that the two primary components (DC-SIG and DC-MEDIA) may be integrated together as a complete solution or licensed individually to be deployed with existing third party implementations. Furthermore, each DCL component may be distributed independently to separate hardware modules or geographical locations. This highly modular architecture enables DC-SBC and the IMS solutions to be deployed in a wide variety of network architectures and in a very scaleable fashion.

Carrier-grade scale and reliability

The DC-SBC modular architecture makes it simple for OEMs to distribute components over different hardware locations, allowing a massively scalable solution. DC-SBC supports hundreds of thousands of concurrent sessions and our non-blocking design allows highly scaled call control to run efficiently in both single and multi-threaded environments. Its redundant framework also enables fault tolerance and high availability, including non-disruptive fail-over to backups (1:1 or 1:N). For more information on Data Connection high availability, see our High Availability Framework page.

Intelligent DoS Detection and Prevention

DC-SBC offers advanced Denial of Service (DoS) attack detection and prevention which goes far beyond the normal CAC policies offered by traditional SBC solutions. DC-SBC uses dynamic blacklisting for attacks, which prevents malicious endpoints from attempting to prevent provision of service to others. DCL's DoS detection can intelligently identify various types of attack and implement specific protection strategies based on attack type.

Superior support

The focus of support at Data Connection is to make our customers' developments successful. We believe that the quality of support available is a key differentiator when licensing software. This means that we do not restrict ourselves to supporting just the software we supply, but also encourage customers to use our expertise in the relevant technologies.
