The SNA 3270 and TN3270 clients provide access to mainframe legacy applications. They are available in both Motif and character-based versions, providing a wide range of features. A single SNAP-IX system can support multiple users running 3270 and 3179G emulation simultaneously.
The separate SNAP-IX TN3270E product supports 3270 and 3179G emulation over a TCP/IP network. It includes the same display and printer emulation capabilities as the SNA 3270 emulator. TN3270E is configured using a formatted text file.
Each 3270 emulation program may have up to ten concurrent sessions, used for:
- IBM 3278/9 display emulation with screen models 2, 3, 4 and 5, including support for extended host attributes
- IBM 3287 printer emulation to printer or file (both LU1 and LU3)
- IND$FILE file transfer to MVS/TSO, VM/CMS and CICS
- HLLAPI.
Local copy printing is supported (both host-initiated and locally-initiated).
The keystroke record/replay feature allows the user to record frequently-used sequences of keystrokes, and to replay them as required.
The programs support a wide range of single-byte and double-byte host languages.
In the Motif program, multiple sessions and control interface dialogs appear as separate windows and can be viewed simultaneously.
The Motif-based 3179G emulation program, for IBM 3179G graphics display emulation, provides the same features as the Motif 3270 emulation program (except for screen model 3 - 5 support). It also supports the following:
- Background transparency
- Program symbol sets A and B
- APL characters.
