This section explains how information is organized and presented in this book.
This book contains the following sections:
Introducing the 3270 Emulation Program, introduces the features and functions of the 3270 emulation program.
The 3270 Emulation Program User Interface, explains how to use the 3270 emulation program's menus, dialog boxes, and help screens.
Getting Started with 3270 Emulation, describes how to start the 3270 emulation program, provides an overview of 3270 display and printer emulation, explains the menu interface and the status line, and explains how to record and replay sequences of 3270 keystrokes. It also describes how to start and use the 3179G emulation program.
Controlling 3270 Emulation, explains the control functions of the 3270 emulation program. It provides instructions for enabling and disabling sessions, viewing response times, and sending alert messages to the host.
Transferring Files, explains how to transfer files between your Solaris computer and the MVS/TSO, VM/CMS, or CICS host computer.
Customizing 3270 Emulation, describes the customization features of the 3270 emulation program (for example, session parameters or keyboard mappings) and how to save your customization in a style file for future use.
Solving Problems, suggests ways to deal with problems you may encounter while using the 3270 emulation program.
Required and Recommended Functions in the terminfo Database, describes the required and recommended Solaris terminal functions when using the 3270 emulation program.
Default Keyboard Mappings, describes the default keyboard definitions for your terminal during 3270 emulation.
Status Line Information, explains the information that appears on the status line during 3270 emulation.
File Transfer Messages, explains the messages that can be produced by the host during file transfer and (where appropriate) the action you should take.
Print Style File Utility, explains how to use the snaprtsty utility to produce a text listing of a style file.
International Support, explains the requirements for setting up your Solaris computer and terminal to use the international language support features of the character-based 3270 emulation program.
Supported Code Pages, lists the ASCII and EBCDIC code pages that are supported by the 3270 emulation program for use in ASCII-EBCDIC conversion during file transfer.
Typographic Conventions, shows the typographic styles used in this document.

This symbol is used to indicate sections of text that apply only to the Motif version of the 3270 emulation program, and not to the character-based version. These sections also apply to the 3179G emulation program (which is based on the Motif 3270 emulation program), except where differences are indicated by a 3179G symbol as shown below.
In general, this manual describes the character-based 3270 emulation program, and then highlights any differences for the Motif version. If you are using only the character-based program, you can ignore these sections.
This symbol is used to indicate sections of text that apply only to the 3179G emulation program, and not to the 3270 emulation program (either character-based or Motif).
This symbol indicates the end of a section of Motif-specific or 3179G-specific text. The information following this symbol applies to all programs.
For every menu, menu option, and dialog box in the user interface, a help screen (online documentation) describes its purpose, the functions available, entry fields, and, where applicable, step-by-step instructions.
The information in the help screens not only states the choices available from a menu or dialog box, but also guides you in making the correct choice.
To view the help screens, press F1 from a menu or dialog box. While a help screen is displayed, you can press F1 again to receive information about the type of help information, and how to use the help screens.
For more information about the help screens, see The 3270 Emulation Program User Interface.
