A separate session window is created for each 5250 display session when it is enabled. This session window contains a screen area that contains the screen from the display application running on the AS/400. The SNAP-IX session window also provides:
An operator information area (OIA) at the bottom of the screen area (described in Operator Information Area) that displays information about the session
Two simple pull-down menus for controlling the session
A toolbar that can be shown or hidden and used to control the session
The layout of a session window is illustrated in 5250 Session Window:
You can view the session control window and multiple session windows simultaneously. Printer sessions have no session window.
The screen area contains the screen from the display application running on the AS/400. Use this area to input data and interact with the application using the keyboard, or other input methods, or by using the mouse to select, cut, and paste text.
In addition to normal keyboard input, the emulation program provides the following ways of inputting hex data and function keys using the keyboard:
To enter a hex value from the keyboard, type Ctrl + H and enter the hex value of the key that you wish to input. The HEX display indicator on the OIA (see Operator Information Area) will show you what you have typed.
To enter a function key from the keyboard, type Ctrl + F and enter the value of the function key that you wish to input. The Function Key display indicator on the OIA (see Operator Information Area) will show you what you have typed.
The operator information area (OIA) appears at the bottom of each session window. It displays information about the status of that display session.
This information is made up of text and display indicators:
When an error occurs in a connected 5250 session, the OIA displays the message supplied by the AS/400 explaining the situation and suggesting how to correct it.
A range of display indicators provide information about the state of the session.
The layout of the OIA is illustrated in OIA Layout:
The following list describes the display indicators that may be shown in the operator information area:

The session is connected to the AS/400 and is ready to be used.

The session is not connected to the AS/400.

The keyboard is locked (unless this session is in error state, in which case the Error State indicator takes its place). If you continue to type when the keyboard is locked, the keystrokes are buffered and the Keystroke Buffering indicator appears instead.

This session is in error state. You must move the screen cursor using the mouse or keyboard to unlock the keyboard.

Keystrokes that you have entered while input was inhibited will be saved temporarily and processed when the input is no longer inhibited.
This indicator provides feedback to the user when particular keystrokes have been entered. One of the following indicators may be displayed:
You have typed Esc.
You have typed Esc Esc.
You have typed Ctrl + H. Enter the hex value of the key that you wish to input (this number will then replace the question marks in the indicator).
You have typed Ctrl + F. Enter the value of the function key that you wish to input (this number will then replace the question marks in the indicator).
The time taken for the last transaction to complete. The time is displayed in the format mm:ss:t where mm is the number of minutes, ss is the number of seconds and t is the tenths of a second. last transaction time indicator>
This indicator shows the current state of macro record or replay. It can be one of the following symbols:

The playback symbol indicates normal macro replay.

The three dots symbol indicates that the macro is waiting for user input.

The record symbol indicates that a macro is being recorded.

The pause symbol indicates that macro recording has been paused.
If the System Administrator has restricted your use of style files so that you cannot create or modify style files, you will not be able to record new macros (although you will still be able to replay existing macros). For more information, see 5250 Style Files.

The printer symbol indicates that the screen is being printed.

The system has received a message for this session. The indicator is grayed when you have responded to the message.
This indicator shows which mode the keyboard is in.

Characters typed at the keyboard will not type over the existing data, but will be inserted.

Characters typed at the keyboard will type over (overwrite) the existing data.

Indicates whether Shift Out and Shift In characters are displayed. (The actual characters that are used to represent Shift Out and Shift In are defined in the style file.)

The primary cursor operating direction is from right to left. (When the primary cursor operating direction is from left to right, no symbol is shown.)

The primary screen operating direction is from right to left. (When the primary screen operating direction is from left to right, no symbol is shown.)
The session window provides you with three pull-down menus:
The Control menu enables you to control the session and show and hide the toolbar.
The Keys menu enables you to view key mappings and enter the selected keystroke.
The Help menu enables you to access the contents of the online help and the help on the session window.
Use the Control menu to control the session by selecting one of the following:
The emulation program attempts to connect the session to the AS/400.
The emulation program attempts to disconnect the session from the AS/400.
The Help menu.
Use the Control menu to show and hide the toolbar. The next section describes the function provided by the buttons on the toolbar.
The session window toolbar provides buttons for the following functions. To see the toolbar, you must select Display Toolbar from the Control menu.
The following set of buttons is provided for recording and replaying macros:

The Record button records macros.

The Pause button pauses macro record.

The Waiting button indicates that the macro must wait for user input.

The Stop button stops macro record or playback.

The Replay button plays macros.
If the System Administrator has restricted your use of style files so that you cannot create or modify style files, you will not be able to record new macros and you will only see the Replay button. For more information about style file permissions, see 5250 Style Files.

This button copies the current contents of the display session window to a local printer or file. You can also print the current contents of the 5250 display by using the PRINT keystroke. The emulation program also prints the current contents of the 5250 display when it receives a COPY TO PRINTER command from the AS/400.

This button takes you to the session control window. You can also go to the session control window by using the RAISE_SCW keystroke.
