The commands that can be issued from the NetView DM program to NDMA are:
Transfer data from the host into a new file on the Solaris computer.
Transfer data from the host to replace the contents of an existing file on the Solaris computer.
Transfer file contents from Solaris files on the Solaris computer to the host.
Delete a file on the Solaris computer.
Display a message from the host on the Solaris computer.
Transfer a command list file (CLIST) from the host into a new file on the Solaris computer, to generate the Solaris shell script, and then run this script. NDMA does not support asynchronous initiate.
NDMA supports recovery (or resynchronization) of the SEND, REPLACE, and RETRIEVE file commands. This recovery is handled internally between the host program (which initiates the recovery process) and NDMA, without requiring operator intervention either at the host or at the Solaris computer. For example, if the data transfer between the host and the Solaris computer is interrupted (by a communications link problem), NetView DM can restart the data transfer later when the problem has been resolved.
The following table illustrates which transmission functions are available for each resource.
