If an error occurs while NDMA is communicating with the host, NDMA logs a message to the SNAP-IX error log file (in addition to writing messages to the screen if it is running in the foreground). The Cause and Action text associated with the log provides information to help you correct the error. For more information about SNAP-IX logging, refer to the SNAP-IX Administration Guide.
Many of the NDMA error logs include a sense code indicating the cause of an error; this can be a sense code received from the host, or a sense code sent to the host by NDMA.
Most of the sense code values used are standard SNA sense codes, listed in the IBM book IBM Systems Network Architecture: Formats; refer to this book for more information about individual sense code values if necessary.
NDMA also uses some additional sense code values, which are not standard SNA values but are used and understood by the NetView DM and DSX programs. The list below explains these values.
0x0846 Status RU follows. The SNA message containing this sense code is followed
by a Status RU containing more details of the error. 0xF001 LB was not valid. NDMA was attempting to recover from a failed transfer,
but a SEND or REPLACE command issued
during the recovery process specified a Logical Block that was not valid.
0xF002 Command attributes were not valid. NDMA was attempting to recover from
a failed transfer, but a SEND or REPLACE
command issued during the recovery process specified command attributes that
did not match those saved from the previous attempt at this transfer. 0xF003 Request was not valid. NDMA was attempting to recover from a failed
transfer, but a SEND command issued during the recovery
process could not be matched with information saved from the previous attempt
at this transfer. 0x32B00202 The host issued a SEND command, but the specified
file already exists. 0x32B20104 The host issued a DELETE command, but the specified
file does not exist. 0x32B50201 The host issued a RETRIEVE command, but the specified
file does not exist. 0x32E90205 Protocol violation. 0x328A0108 The host issued an unsupported command.
Because NDMA uses the SNAP-IX LUA interface, some NDMA error log messages include the return codes from a failed LUA verb. Check these return codes in the SNAP-IX LUA Programmer's Guide for more information about the cause of the error.

The SNAP-IX error and audit log files
Trace files for the communications link to the host, if you can reproduce the problem with tracing enabled
The NDMA command log file, ndm.log
