2 Installing SNAP-IX TN3270

This chapter explains how to install the SNAP-IX TN3270 software. It includes the following topics:

2.1 Required Hardware and Software

SNAP-IX TN3270 requires one of the following Solaris versions:

Most of the installation process steps and requirements are the same for both versions of Solaris. There are a small number of differences, noted in the following sections; the instructions in this manual should be taken to apply to both SPARC and Intel Solaris unless otherwise noted.

2.1.1 Additional Requirements

SNAP-IX TN3270 also requires additional hardware and software.

X11

To use the Motif 3270 emulation program, you need X11 Release 4 and Motif Version 1.1 or later.

To run the Motif display on a different computer from the 3270 emulation program, some additional font files must be installed on the computer used for the display. For more information, see Installing Motif Font Files.

TCP/IP Run-Time System

SNAP-IX TN3270 communicates with other systems using TCP/IP. The TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) run-time system must be installed before SNAP-IX TN3270 can be used.
