This chapter explains how to install the SNAP-IX TN3270 software. It includes the following topics:
Required hardware and software for SNAP-IX TN3270
Installing SNAP-IX TN3270
Installing Motif font files for 3270 or 3179G emulation
Using shared memory and semaphores
SNAP-IX TN3270 requires one of the following Solaris versions:
SPARC Solaris version 2.5.1 or later
Intel Solaris version 2.6
Most of the installation process steps and requirements are the same for both versions of Solaris. There are a small number of differences, noted in the following sections; the instructions in this manual should be taken to apply to both SPARC and Intel Solaris unless otherwise noted.
SNAP-IX TN3270 also requires additional hardware and software.
To use the Motif 3270 emulation program, you need X11 Release 4 and Motif Version 1.1 or later.
To run the Motif display on a different computer from the 3270 emulation program, some additional font files must be installed on the computer used for the display. For more information, see Installing Motif Font Files.
SNAP-IX TN3270 communicates with other systems using TCP/IP. The TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) run-time system must be installed before SNAP-IX TN3270 can be used.
