This appendix explains the setup requirements for using the 3270 emulation program's international language support. This information applies only to the character-based program, not to the Motif program.
You enable international language support by using the option on the command line when starting the 3270 emulation program. This option enables you to select the language variant of EBCDIC used by your host computer so the program can interpret international language characters correctly.
If you create style files that use a host language other than U.S. English, you should use these style files only when starting the 3270 emulation program with to enable international language support. If you use such a style file without using , the keyboard mappings in the style file are not available, and the 3270 emulation program reverts to its default keyboard mappings.
To use the international language option, your screen hardware and software must include support for the ISO 8859 character set. This character set must always be enabled when using the option, even when using a host language such as U.S. English, which does not require international characters. Depending on your terminal setup, ISO 8859 support requires one of the following:
For an ASCII terminal, switching the terminal into the ISO 8859 character set
For an X-terminal, a parameter to the xterm process specifying the ISO 8859 character set
In addition, the terminal's terminfo database entry must be set up to support 8-bit characters; the ISO 8859 character set may require different values for the box drawing characters. For more information about terminfo requirements, see Default Keyboard Mappings or contact your System Administrator.
